A Bold Pop of Green: My Park Bench Buffet Makeover

A Bold Pop of Green: My Park Bench Buffet Makeover

My husband always insists that my favorite color is green. I have always denied it, mostly because I genuinely never thought I had a favorite color and partly because I do not want to admit he might be right. I do like green. It is fresh, vibrant, and full of life, but is it my favorite? I was not so sure.

Green Painting Dresser

I wanted something different this time, something that would really stand out. If you have ever started a furniture makeover, you know that choosing a color is often the hardest part. It sets the tone for the whole piece. After staring at paint swatches and scrolling through endless inspiration, I decided to take a bold step and go with Fusion™ Mineral Paint in Park Bench, a lively, rich green that promised to bring character and charm to this old buffet.

To complement the striking green base, I stained the top with Fusion’s Golden Pine Stain and Finishing Oil, which brought out the natural warmth and grain of the wood beautifully. The contrast between the golden wood tone and the lush green was even better than I imagined, classic yet full of personality.

When the last brushstroke dried, I stepped back and could not stop smiling. The transformation was exactly what I was hoping for: fresh, vibrant, and eye-catching, yet still timeless enough to work with my space. And as much as I hate to admit it, I absolutely love the color. Maybe my husband was right all along. Green really is my favorite. But let us keep that between us.

Supplies You Will Need

  • Fusion™ Mineral Paint in Park Bench

  • Fusion™ Stain and Finishing Oil in Golden Pine

  • Fusion™ TSP Alternative  (for prepping the surface)

  • Sanding block or medium-grit sandpaper

  • Staalmeester flat brush or quality paint brush

  • Lint-free cloths (for wiping away dust and applying SFO)

  • Painter’s tape (optional, to mask off the top while painting)

Step-by-Step: How I Painted This Buffet

  1. Prep the surface – I started by giving the buffet a thorough clean with Fusion™ TSP Alternative to remove any grease or residue. A light scuff sand ensured the paint would adhere perfectly.

  2. Protect areas you do not want painted – I taped off the top of the buffet before painting the base.

  3. Apply the paint – Using a Staalmeester brush, I painted two thin, even coats of Park Bench, allowing proper dry time between each. Fusion’s excellent coverage meant I did not need more.

  4. Refinish the top – Once the paint was fully dry, I lightly sanded and wiped down the wood top. Then I applied Golden Pine Stain and Finishing Oil with a lint-free cloth, wiping away the excess to reveal a warm, glowing finish.

  5. Let it cure – After 21 days, the finish is fully cured and ready for everyday use.

The result is a bold and beautiful piece that instantly brightens the room and proves that a pop of green can completely transform a piece of furniture. It is a project that reminded me how powerful paint can be, and maybe, just maybe, that my husband knows me better than I think.
